I find this photo booth intriguing and perplexing. I’m sure there was some purpose in her behavior. Read the story. By @natgeo “@paulnicklen on an assignment about coastal wolves for @natgeo with @cristinamittermeier and @Oren.lawson. After staring at an empty beach for hours, this gorgeous female wolf came out of the estuary and calmly sat down in this beautiful pose 20 feet away. It then got up and disappeared into the rainforest like a ghost. I had to check my camera to make sure that I hadn’t dreamed up the moment. In British Columbia it costs 5 dollars to get a license to kill a wolf. Very little is known about the delicate nature of these populations. What is the purpose of so someone can hang a pelt on the wall??? There is no greater thrill than being just a few feet away from a wild predator and then watch it walk back into the forest to play its crucial role in keeping an ecosystem healthy. #stoptrophyhunting”

Inspiring, it can be done. Photo and words by @cabinlife_alaska “Five years ago, I gave up every worldly possession I had and I moved to Alaska with only a backpack on my back. I had nice stuff, too. Nice furniture, and other things that I had had my entire life. I wanted to start life over, and I knew that Alaska was the place I wanted to go. I had been traveling there most of my adult life, and I knew I wanted it but I wasn’t sure why. Eventually, I discovered that cabin life was the life for me. There is nothing like the freedom that I have when I am out here. It is the most quiet place I have ever been, especially in the winter. It is so peaceful here, I simply cannot describe it. The winters are so serene…. I love the darkness. I love the stars. I love my oil lamps, and I love the Northern Lights. I love that simple things like cooking and running water for a bath take more time, but seem more satisfying. I love the fact that I can get by with very little electricity and only a few gallons of water a day. I embrace the exhilarating feeling I get when I use my snow machine to cut across the Alaskan tundra exploring. I have acclimated here now to the point where it I simply never want to leave. Hopefully you enjoy the pictures that Jack and I show. Jack has lived here since 1968, and he truly understands the spirit of the land. These photos are our story of our love of Alaska.” via @PhotoRepost_app

Please read and share. By @natgeo “@paulnicklen on assignment for with @cristinamittermeier and @oren.lawson After two weeks of waiting, this incredible coastal graced us with her presence. For hours we watched her feed and play in the intertidal zone where shore meets ocean. These wolves live their entire lives near the ocean. We captured this image just two days before got the go ahead from the Canadian Government to run a pipeline from Alberta’s tar sands to the pristine BC coast where over 250 super tankers a year will come and go through these narrow passage ways and treacherous currents. These ships are ten times larger than the Exxon Valdez and one spill will affect every species and person on this coast. Enbridge says that this will create hundreds of jobs. What about the 40,000 tourism and fishing jobs that rely on a healthy coast. Support the #firstnations. While Harper risks Canada’s identity and greatest treasures, Obama is busy trying to protect vast tracts of marine habitat. #tofino” via @PhotoRepost_app
